Southern India is renowned for its tranquil backwaters, tropical beaches, rich history and fascinating culture. We cruise by houseboat on the Malabar Backwaters - a network of waterways, to discover how the communities of the region live, and visit thriving and colourful temple complexes before relaxing on the beaches of Kovalam. From Chennai we drive to the French colonial town of Pondicherry, with a visit to the Ashram at Auroville. We explore the temples and palaces of Tanjore, Trichy and Madurai, including Trichy’s Rock Fort Temple. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is home to wild elephants, bison, spotted deer and the elusive tiger. Kumarakom lies in the heart of the Backwater Country, and is famous for its beautiful canals, backwaters and lagoons. We cruise to Alleppey on a traditional Kerala rice boat, staying overnight on board. As we watch local life sail by and experience the fascinating world of rice boats, we sample the delicious South Indian cuisine. Then on to Kovalam with its tropical beaches and coconut palms, before ending our tour in Kochi, with its Portuguese influence, and unique Chinese Fishing Nets.

This tour takes us to the palaces of Maharajas, past and present, and from small villages to the bustling city of Delhi. We visit the Taj Mahal, the tigers of Ranthambore, a camel breeding farm and wander around the forts of Junagarh and Mehrangah. A mixture of local transport includes camels, bicycle rickshaws and jeeps. We look for tigers and sloth bears in Ranthambore National Park, and we explore the beautiful city of Jaipur, also called the ‘Pink City’ - with its City and Amber Palaces. This wonderful tour allows you to experience the colours, peoples, cultures and landscapes of India. During this fourteen day journey, we take in some of the cultural highlights, such as the Taj Mahal, the Pink City of Jaipur, and the City Palace of Udaipur.
The tour starts in the capital Delhi, a fascinating blend of the old and the new. We move on to Agra and the spectacular white marble of the Taj Mahal contrasting so well with the red sandstone of Fatehpur Sikri. Another cultural highlight is Jaipur, better known as the Pink City, with its imposing Amber Fort as its famous landmark, but the City Palace and Hawa Mahal are not to be missed. We take a rickshaw ride through Jaipur market, overnight at Pushkar, home of the famous annual camel fair, and explore the Jain Temples and the forts of Kuchaman, Khejerla and Jodhpur. Finally we visit Udaipur, a beautiful, romantic city surrounded by lakes, before returning to Delhi and the end of our journey.

The tour starts in the bustling capital of Delhi and heads to Mandawa, famous for its havelis, and the ideal gateway to Rajasthan. We travel through the Shekhawati belt and down to Jaisalmer in the heart of the desert land, with its imposing hill top fortress and fascinating bazaars. From here we drive into the dunes, and embark on an overnight camel safari with a night under the stars in a desert camp.
Our journey continues to Jodhpur, the Blue City, and then to Udaipur, the beautiful lake city known as the 'Venice of Asia'.
