Atlanta–Charleston. Today, cross into South Carolina and arrive in historic Charleston, located on the confluence of the Ashley and Cooper Rivers. Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage around the city; visit historic Fort Sumter, where the American Civil War began; or shop for souvenirs at the Old City Market. This evening, discover some of the city’s fabulous restaurants. Take in the beauty of majestic Live Oak trees draped in Spanish Moss and feel the history of the many preserved homes, churches, and cemeteries. Many sites may look familiar, as several award-winning movies have been shot here, including Forrest Gump, The Prince of Tides, and The Big Chill. Hilton Head Island. Today, explore this 12-mile island with its many possibilities. Pick up some golf clubs and hit the links, swim in the surf, shop the outlet stores and chic boutiques, or enjoy fresh shrimp and soft-shell crabs. You can also choose to learn about the Gullah culture, kayak with dolphins, climb to the top of the Harbour Town Lighthouse for beautiful views, or enjoy a sunset stroll. |
